On June 6 in Bournemouth, England, a 10-round cruiserweight bout will headline Zuffa Boxing 07. Former world champion Chris "The Gentleman" Billam-Smith returns to his hometown — to face Canadian knockout artist Ryan "The Bruiser" Rozicki. Ten rounds at cruiserweight, no belts, but with enormous stakes for both.

This is a fight both men call a "title fight without a title." The winner moves into line for Jai Opetaia and the Zuffa championship. A loss is a step back neither can afford.

A champion coming home

Chris Billam-Smith is one of the most decorated British fighters of recent years. British, Commonwealth, and European champion, and in May 2023 a world champion: he beat Lawrence Okolie to claim the WBO cruiserweight belt. He defended the title, lost it, and now wants to return to the top.

An important detail of the Brit's next bout is the venue. The fight takes place in Bournemouth, Billam-Smith's hometown. It's his eighth appearance here, including three sold-out nights at the very same Bournemouth International Centre. For him it's a true homecoming, with all the pressure and support that entails.

But there may be questions about Chris's physical form. Billam-Smith's last fight was over a year ago — in April 2025 he beat Brandon Glanton by unanimous decision. And before that, in November 2024, he lost to Gilberto Ramirez — also by unanimous decision. He comes into the Rozicki fight after a long layoff, with a new promoter (his Zuffa Boxing debut) and an obvious goal: to prove he's still the best cruiserweight in the world.

Will he have enough for it now — including mentally? The Glanton fight opened a card from The Ring, and here he's straight into the main event of a home show.

The Canadian hammer

Ryan Rozicki is the complete opposite. If Billam-Smith is the tactician, the Canadian is a pure knockout artist. His stats are striking: 21-1-1 with 20 wins by knockout. Around 95% stoppages — one of the highest rates in the division. Another detail: 18 of his knockouts came in the first three rounds. Rozicki doesn't mess around — he comes to finish his opponent.

That said, the level of opposition may raise questions. Among the loudest names — Durodola, Rivas (the only loss of his career). The names on the Brit's record are far more impressive. Ryan simply hasn't fought opponents of the caliber of Gilberto Ramirez, Richard Riakporhe, Mateusz Masternak, Lawrence Okolie, Isaac Chilemba. Billam-Smith is far ahead here.

One more nuance. This is Rozicki's first fight outside Canada — he has never fought on foreign soil, and here he's heading straight into his opponent's hometown. And his activity is fairly low: this will be only his second fight since December 2024, when Ryan boxed to a draw. In March 2026 he returned after a 15-month layoff, stopping Gerardo Mellado in the second round.

Interestingly, since the only loss of his career (to Oscar Rivas), Rozicki has gone 8-0-1 with seven stoppages. So his power is something to take very seriously.

What's at stake

There are no belts, but both fighters fully understand the weight of this night. The winner moves into position as a challenger for Jai Opetaia — likely the best cruiserweight on the planet — and the Zuffa Boxing championship. Rozicki bluntly called it "a career-altering fight for as long as it lasts."

The bout headlines the Zuffa Boxing 07 card — the promotion's first event in the UK under Dana White. Broadcast on Sky Sports, with whom Zuffa signed a deal earlier. For Rozicki it's the chance he's waited years for. For Billam-Smith, the opportunity to begin the road back to a title at home, in front of his own.

Stylistically it's a cruiserweight classic: technical boxing against heavy power. Billam-Smith is nearly a head above in championship-level experience, but Rozicki hits so hard that one clean shot can settle everything. The question is whether the Brit can withstand ten rounds under the pressure the Canadian promises.

The numbers

The contrast is striking. Rozicki has a 95% knockout rate against Billam-Smith's 62% — one of the largest punching-power gaps among all of June's fights. But Billam-Smith is far more active and experienced at the top level. The main intrigue: will the Canadian's heavy fist reach the Brit's chin before the home fighter's technical mastery takes over.
